Nicaraguan
Cocobolo has excellent tap tone. It differs from Mexican Cocobolo in
color, and in my opinion, it is less oily, at least the wood I have
is.
This particular set is beautifully colored. A vibrant red/orange-yellow
with darker red/purple streaks at the center seam, it also boasts nice
black ink lines as you can plainly see. It is nicely quartered in the
middle but goes flatsawn on the outer parts of the back.
The sides are perfectly quartered, and are red/orange on part, and yellow/orange
on part. The grain is very tight.
I have built an SJ with a set off the same board as this material, and
it is a wonderful tonewood.
